'Brilliant player' - Ross McCrorie blown away by Rangers summer signing
By James Black
Ross McCrorie made an impressive debut for Rangers last night and the 19-year-old was full of praise for his defensive partner Fabio Cardoso – calling him a great player to play beside.
McCrorie replaced Bruno Alves midway through the second-half at Firhill in the Gers’ 3-1 extra-time win over Partick Thistle and impressed fans with a composed display against the hosts’ forwards.
The Scotland Under-21 international has been a stand-out for Graeme Murty’s Development Squad and carried that form into his first-team debut for Pedro Caixinha’s senior side looking calm in possession and bullying Partick’s forwards.
McCrorie revealed that playing with summer signing Fabio Cardoso during pre-season made his competitive debut a little easier as he knew the Portuguese’s game well.
“I played with him a few times in pre-season and train with him every day, so I know exactly what he is like. He’s a brilliant player and great to play alongside.” McCrorie told RangersTV, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“The manager too, he told me he’d be changing the formation to have two – Jason Holt and Ryan Jack – deeper, and he told me to go out and enjoy it too.
“I just need to get as many games as I can now, keep impressing the gaffer and take it from there and see what happens.”
With Bruno Alves, Lee Wallace and Declan John all carrying injuries, McCrorie could be thrust into an Old Firm Ibrox debut on Saturday lunchtime.
McCrorie’s twin brother Robby is also a Rangers player – currently on loan at Berwick Rangers – and both are very highly-rated by the Ibrox coaching staff.
Comfortable as a central defender, right-back or holding midfielder, McCrorie has been captain of the Under-20 side for a number of years.
After stints on loan at Ayr United and Dumbarton, McCrorie showed why fans are desperate to see more young talent come through the Academy at Auchenhowie following Jamie Barjonas, Aidan Wilson and Myles Beerman into the first-team.
In other Rangers team news, Chris Sutton has destroyed a midfielder for his display against Partick Thistle.
