'Brilliant' Schick can explode at Newcastle after Sky journalist's £50m update - pundit

Bayer Leverkusen Patrick Schick could hit the ground running from “day one” for Newcastle United, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old’s confidence will be “sky high” after already netting 17 league goals this term.

This site exclusively revealed on Wednesday (12 January) that Newcastle have set their sights on another striker signing following the £25m capture of Chris Wood from Burnley this week.

According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie on Twitter (10 January), the Magpies have shown interest in Schick this month, with the German club reportedly asking for £50m.

Campbell insisted the Czech hitman would future-proof Eddie Howe’s side as well as provide an instant goal threat.

“He’s a really good player,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He’s technically very good and he knows exactly where the goal is – so he’s ticking a lot of boxes for Newcastle.

“That one will be very expensive if they go and get him. He’s a good international player, just like Chris Wood, so they’re getting quality through the door.

“Not only are they building for the future by going for him, but he can help you from day one. He’s on fire right now and his confidence will be sky-high. That’d be a brilliant addition.”

Shick won the Silver Boot at Euro 2020 after netting four goals for the Czech Republic during the tournament.

Newcastle face a relegation six-pointer against Watford tomorrow.

The Magpies sit just two points from safety despite registering just one Premier League win this term.
