Leeds United “fell victim” to the congested fixture list after Stuart Dallas picked up an injury blow against Luton Town, according to Alex Bruce.

The former Leeds defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the short period of time between games has caused the Whites to lose one of their most dependable performers.

Dallas pulled up with a muscular injury in the 1-1 draw with Luton on Tuesday and Marcelo Bielsa confirmed, as relayed by Phil Hay, that he would likely miss Saturday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers.

Bruce believes the intense run of games played a significant role in the 29-year-old’s setback and insists he will be a big miss for Bielsa should he be ruled out for any length of time.

Bruce told Football Insider: “He has been one of their standout performers. When you play so many games in a short space of time after a long period off, unfortunately it’s going to test the squad.

“Leeds have fell victim to that. He’ll be someone they want to try and get back fit because they’ve got some important games coming up.

“Another result for West Brom last night just keeps that competition at the top of the Championship going.”

Dallas has already played 40 games across all competitions for Leeds, featuring as a left-back, a right-back and a winger on both flanks so far.

He scored Leeds’ equaliser against Luton but his injury saw him replaced by Jamie Shackleton with just minutes to play.

In other Leeds United news, Michael Brown claims that the Whites have been dealt a “big loss” at Elland Road.
