Bruno Guimaraes: Newcastle midfielder set for imminent return as sources share what they’ve seen behind closed doors
Bruno Guimaraes has been missing from the Newcastle United line-up since February after suffering a hamstring injury.
The Brazilian’s loss has been felt brutally by the Magpies, who have been knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League since losing him.
The 28-year-old is key to everything Newcastle do well, and while Jacob Ramsey has performed well, he does not enjoy the same impact.
Guimaraes is expected to return for the trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday, which will mark the start of a crucial seven-game run to the end of the season.
Newcastle’s injury problems have been severe this season, but they will hope their talisman’s return can drive them towards European football.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider last month that Guimares could leave Newcastle this summer, amid the financial issues at St James’ Park.
Should the Magpies miss out on Champions League football, it is expected that sacrifices will have to be made.

Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali are also expected to be the subject of interest, and there is a feeling that Howe would sooner lose all three than his star man.
Since his 2022 arrival from Lyon, Guimaraes has progressed into one of the best midfielders in the world and a certified fan favourite.
The Brazil international constantly drives Newcastle forward, setting the tempo with strong tackles and big moments.
This season, he has taken on more of a goal-scoring role following the departure of Alexander Isak. The 28-year-old’s nine Premier League goals is the highest in the Newcastle squad.
Guimaraes’ absence has been felt massively, but he now looks set to return. BBC Sport reports that sources at Newcastle say that the Brazilian has been “working hard every single day”, in an attempt to get back and help his team.
Howe’s latest Guimaraes update
Speaking before the international break, Howe confirmed that he expects Guimaraes to return to the line-up against Palace.
“He has been working incredibly hard on his recovery,” he said. “I’d like to think by the time the international break has ended he will be back ready for us.”
Newcastle’s video of Guimaraes in training this week appears to have further confirmed that his return his imminent.
The 28-year-old’s comeback will be key for the Magpies, who are in desperate need of a late-season boost.
