Bruno Guimaraes reacts to Anthony Gordon’s Newcastle message amid exit whispers

Bruno Guimaraes has responded to Anthony Gordon’s new post amid rumours of him potentially leaving Newcastle United this summer.

Newcastle’s stellar 2024/25 domestic campaign means they are back in the Champions League for next season, and speedy winger Gordon once again played a key part in their success.

The Magpies’ main men are attracting interest this summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal both interested in a move for Alexander Isak, while former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider back in April that Gordon is the most likely star player to leave Newcastle this summer amid interest from the Reds and the Gunners.

He has continued to be linked with a move away from St James’ Park, and Gordon was recently pictured on holiday with Liverpool star Curtis Jones, which has only fuelled the rumours of him potentially being set to move back to his native Merseyside.

Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool have been told it would take an offer of £75-80million to sign Gordon, with Newcastle unwilling to sell him this summer due to their lack of PSR concerns.

The 24-year-old remains a Magpies player as it stands with two months of the transfer window still to go, and he took to Instagram on Tuesday (1 July) to post a picture of himself in the club’s new third kit for the upcoming season, saying: “3rd kit. 3rd season.”

Gordon is likely alluding to 2025/26 being his third full campaign at the club, having joined midway through 2022/23, and so Newcastle supporters will be pleased at his potential hint of staying beyond this summer.

Magpies teammate Guimaraes responded to his post by commenting a red heart emoji, while Jacob Murphy, Valentino Livramento, Ezri Konsa, Amadou Onana and Jacob Ramsey were among those to react with a like.

Gordon should stay at Newcastle for another season at least

Football Insider verdict

Gordon’s impressive form at Newcastle has understandably seen him placed on the list of targets of numerous top sides in recent months, but he would surely be better served by remaining in the north-east for another year.

Football Insider have previously revealed that the Magpies’ qualification for the Champions League has strengthened their PSR situation and so they are under no pressure to sell their key players, which means he would have to force an exit for a move away to happen.

That certainly looks unlikely given his seemingly strong relationship with boss Eddie Howe, and so it would be somewhat of a surprise to see him leave this summer, especially with Liverpool having already spent a club transfer record on Florian Wirtz, while Arsenal’s interest seems to have cooled in recent weeks.

He would be best served staying at Newcastle, with the club back to competing near the top of the Premier League and in Europe’s premier club competition, at least until next summer where he will surely be playing a key role for England at the World Cup in the USA.
