Bruno Guimaraes send four-word message as Newcastle exit package finalised

Bruno Guimaraes was among the Newcastle United stars to reach out to Anthony Gordon after he confirmed his move to Barcelona on Friday.

The Spanish giants have agreed a deal worth around £69million to sign the England international, who was also of interest to Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Newcastle appeared to be resigned to the prospect of losing Gordon weeks ago, with decision-makers at St James’ Park keen not to stand in his way.

The 25-year-old was a faithful servant to the Magpies in the three and a half years he spent at the club, netting 39 goals in 152 appearances.

Newcastle transfer chiefs must now kick off the process of replacing him, with several potential targets already linked.

Anthony Gordon sent messages amid goodbye

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this month that Bayern were to submit a bid for Gordon, with the Germans having been leading the race.

The winger looked almost certain to be heading to the Bundesliga, with the champions quickly striking an agreement on personal terms.

Barcelona’s sudden interest seemed to come out of nowhere, and they moved with ruthless efficiency, almost instantly submitting a deal Newcastle were happy with.

The La Liga champions are now attempting to complete a deal for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, who is expected to cost as much as £130m to sign.

Both moves have left the future of Marcus Rashford up in the air, after he spent the season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions, and was expected to join for the £26m option to buy, but it has yet to be triggered.

Following confirmation of Gordon’s move on Friday, he took to Instagram to say goodbye to Newcastle. “I’m no longer a Newcastle player, but I’ll always be a Newcastle fan, and I’ll continue to watch and support from afar,” he wrote.

Guimaraes commented: “All the best bro”, while Joe Willock also posting a heartfelt message. He wrote: “So proud of you bro, going to miss u”.

Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke react

Gordon will fly out to the United States with England on Monday ahead of the start of preparations for the World Cup.

The winger has been a favourite of Thomas Tuchel since his appointment as manager, and was always set to be included.

Arsenal players Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke will go to the tournament with Gordon, and both players liked his exit post on Friday.

The Gunners will play the Champions League final against PSG on Saturday, as they eye a trophy-laden few months.
