Bruno Guimaraes sends ‘big’ message to Newcastle fans after confirmed news

Bruno Guimaraes has thanked the Newcastle fans for their support after suffering a scare in their 3-1 FA Cup win over Bromley on Sunday (January 12) and predicted a “big week” for the club.

The 27-year-old came on at half-time to help Newcastle stave off a potential giant-killing in the tie with the League Two side.

Bromley took a surprise lead after just eight minutes at St James’ Park through Cameron Congreve’s long-range effort.

Daniel Imray nearly doubled the visitor’s lead shortly after, running from his own half into the Newcastle box before firing his shot just wide.

Young midfielder Lewis Miley restored parity in the 16th minute with a thundering long-range effort, sending the two sides level at half-time.

Eddie Howe called up both Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon to help save the tie, with the England winger giving Newcastle the lead from the penalty spot.

Guimaraes then played a key role in Newcastle’s third, bagging the assist for William Osula’s first goal since joining the club in the summer.

Guimaraes took to Instagram after the game to thank the fans, saying: “Very happy to advance in the FA Cup!! Big week ahead. Let’s go, Newcastle!! We count on your support as always!”

Newcastle will face Birmingham City in the next round of the FA Cup, as they seek to win their first piece of silverware under Howe.

Howe’s attention will return to the Premier League on Wednesday (January 15) knowing a win could see them enter the Champions League qualification spots.
