Bruno Guimaraes sends message to Newcastle fans after extraordinary twist

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has taken to social media to dedicate their 2-0 Premier League win over Man United on Monday (December 30) to the fans.

The 27-year-old played the full 90 minutes as, in a twist that would once have been extraordinary, Eddie Howe’s side strolled to victory over Man United at Old Trafford, their first in 42 years.

In-form striker Alexander Isak opened the scoring after just four minutes, nodding past Andre Onana in the Man United goal from Lewis Hall’s deflected cross.

Joelinton doubled Newcastle’s lead in the 19th minute, towering over Lisandro Martinez to score with another header and secure all three points for the visitors.

Newcastle climbed up to fifth without having to get out of first gear against Ruben Amorim’s struggling side, three points off Chelsea following their shock 2-0 defeat to Ipswich.

The Newcastle captain has been key for Howe so far this season, starting 20 of his 23 games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing five assists in his 1898 minutes of action.

Guimaraes took to Instagram to celebrate the win over Man United, saying: “Great victory!!! This one’s for you, NUFC fans. Enjoy it, and let’s keep pushing for more. This team and these fans deserve great things. Howay the lads. Have a great New Year Geordies.”

Man United are now closer to the relegation zone than the top four, sitting in 15th with six wins, four draws, and nine defeats from their 19 games.

Newcastle will be hoping to start 2025 with a bang as they prepare to face Ange Postecoglu’s inconsistent Tottenham side on Saturday (December 4).
