Bruno Guimaraes told he ‘won’t start at Man City’ after source’s reveal – pundit
Man City would struggle to fit Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes into the starting lineup if he was to move to Etihad before the window shuts.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie questioned where he would play.
The Newcastle midfielder had been available to purchase via a £100million release clause, but that expired at the end of June.
However, Man City are interested in Guimaraes, sources have told Football Insider, and potentially selling Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez could provide Pep Guardiola with the cash to make this deal happen.
The Brazilian has impressed since joining Newcastle, with his performances gaining many admirers.
The 26-year-old has made 86 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 16 times and providing 14 assists.
Guimaraes is under contract at St James’ Park until 2028, putting the club in a strong position if they don’t want to sell him.
Man City would struggle to fit Bruno Guimaraes into the team
Man City and Arsenal have been monitoring the midfielder this summer, but the player recently joined up with his teammates for pre-season following the Copa America.
Guimaraes has been a regular for the Magpies since he joined the club, and that’s something McAvennie believes he wouldn’t be guaranteed elsewhere.
“Where’s he going to go? Where’s he going to play,” McAvennie asked Football Insider.
“Unless Rodri and that leave, which I can’t see them doing anytime soon.
“He’s a good player, he’s better than that; this boy wouldn’t get a game.
“That’s why I would say I wouldn’t go, ‘Oh, I’m not going.’

“It’s alright going in and walking in a team and saying, ‘I fancy myself, I’m going to be number one,’ but when you walk into Man City, you think, ‘Could I be number one?’
“There’s a lot of good players there, so you’ve got to really fancy yourself to do that.”
