Robert Pires has urged Arsene Wenger to bring players to Arsenal who are capable of providing a Premier League title challenge next season.
The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League and outside the top four for the first time in more than two decades, last finishing outside the Champions League places in 1995-96.
Speaking to Sky Sports after a legends match ahead of the Champions League final, ex-Gunners ace Pires wants Wenger to buy players that can push his old side to the top of the Premier League.
“The first objective will be to win the Premier League,” Pires said. “Now we need to build a new team for next season.
“I think Arsenal will be stronger for next season. Now it’s very important to buy players and build a team to win the Premier League.”
The Telegraph have revealed that the Gunners have had a huge bid of £87million rejected for Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe, as Wenger looks to press ahead in the transfer window.
Arsenal finished a disappointing 2016-17 season on a high by holding aloft the FA Cup trophy following a 2-1 win over Premier League champions Chelsea.
However, the Gunners will be in the Europa League next season after losing nine of their 38 league games this season.
Pires is a regular feature at the Arsenal training ground of late, after retiring from professional football in 2015 after a short stint with Indian Super League in 2015.
