Burnley next manager: Scott Parker sack update as ‘experienced Championship boss’ lined up

Burnley are already assessing potential replacements for Scott Parker and have put a new plan in place in case they are forced to pull the trigger.

Parker is facing increasing scrutiny over his position and failure to turn their form around over the next few weeks will likely lead to his dismissal.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Burnley are planning to hire an experienced manager to replace Parker.

With nine points still separating the Clarets from safety, and West Ham picking up form while Nottingham Forest have changed their manager, the future is looking bleak.

As a result, they are all but resigned to going down, and any decisions made now regarding the manager’s future will be with next season in mind.

Burnley set sights on next manager after Scott Parker latest

Brown told Football Insider on 16 February that Burnley could sack Parker “immediately” following their shock FA Cup defeat at home against Mansfield Town.

As a result, plans are being put in place for their next manager, and they hope to bring in a coach with experience of managing in the Championship for next season.

It’s difficult to see where Burnley are going to get points,” Brown told Football Insider.

“It was a big win for them against Palace and that sort of came out of the blue, but their fixtures aren’t going to get any easier and they’re in a tough position.

“You’ve got West Ham and Forest ahead of them picking up points as well, it would be a hell of a job to get them out of this situation.

“I’m expecting them to get relegated, and I expect they will be planning for that and already looking ahead to getting back into the Premier League.

“They’ll be looking at managers who are well qualified to guide them back up.

“Which managers have experience at getting promotion from the Championship and might be available? That’s what the club are considering.

“Parker obviously did a fantastic job with that last season, but things have gone a bit sour and it’s hard to build up again after that, so they’ll look elsewhere.”

Who is in the running to replace Parker at Burnley?

Pressure on Parker’s position has led to speculation about who Burnley could approach to replace him, with their Premier League survival looking unlikely.

Sean Dyche has been tipped to return to Burnley shortly following his departure from Nottingham Forest, who quickly replaced him with Vitor Pereira.

Dyche spent almost 10 years in charge of Burnley between 2012 and 2022, managing over 400 games and establishing himself as a club legend.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are both believed to be contenders for the position as both are out of work and keen to return to the Premier League.

Solksjaer missed out on the interim job at Man United last month, while Gerrard turned down a return to Rangers earlier this season, meaning both are still available.
