'Bye Bye' - Leeds fans react on Twitter as 23-year-old axed from squad v Wigan

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans have said goodbye on Twitter to contract rebel Charlie Taylor after he was left out of the squad to face Wigan on Sunday afternoon.

Manager Garry Monk made one change to his side by including Lewie Coyle at right-back in place of Sweden international Pontus Jansson, which sees Luke Ayling play at centre-back.

Gaetano Berardi starts at left-back once again, while young defender Tyler Denton is named on the substitutes’ bench over 23-year-old Taylor.

Leeds posted the team news on their official Twitter account prior to the match.

The Leeds academy product has been criticised for not signing a new deal with the Yorkshire giants, with his current contract set to expire in less than two months’ time.

Leeds fans took to Twitter to wish Taylor goodbye as he looks likely to have played his final game for his boyhood club, the team he has played for since he made his debut in 2011.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Since his debut against Bradford six years ago, Taylor has made 104 league and cup appearances for the former Champions League side but could not help them regain their place in the Premier League after a 13-year absence.

In other Leeds news, Noel Whelan has given this verdict on Monk’s contract saga.
