Callum McGregor delivers verdict on Rangers v Celtic, explains impact of cup success

By Dominic Toner

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor believes that Rangers will be determined for revenge in their league clash on Saturday.

The Bhoys managed to record a comfortable 2-0 victory over their Old Firm rivals on Sunday in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The two Glasgow sides face again at Ibrox this weekend and Pedro Caixinha will be looking for a response from his side.

Rangers were unable to compete with the pace of their opponents, while Celtic preserved their unbeaten domestic record this season and moved a step closer to the treble.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will travel to Rangers full of confidence and will be favourites to maintain their unbeaten run.

However, 23-year-old midfielder McGregor is expecting a difficult test away to their rivals and feels it will be a different kind of match.

“It will be different a game. Always harder to go there and get on the ball and play. Especially after the result on Sunday, they’ll be up for it. Need to look after out stuff and hopefully go and get a positive result,” McGregor said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Celtic romped to the league title on 2 April with a 5-0 demolition of Hearts and have looked impressive since the summer appointment of Rodgers.

They will be keen to finish this season unbeaten and can expect a hostile reception when they visit Ibrox.

The champions managed to record a 2-1 away victory on their last league match against Rangers, with Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair on the scoresheet.

McGregor is another player that has impressed this campaign and he managed to grab himself a goal in the weekend’s win over the Gers.

In other Celtic news, their star player is set to discover the extent of his injury on Monday after a scan.
