Newcastle youngster Callum Roberts has set himself a five-goal minimum target during his loan spell at Kilmarnock.

Roberts joined the Scottish Premiership side on loan until the end of the season alongside fellow academy duo Freddie Woodman and Sean Longstaff.

The trio had played starring roles for Newcastle’s Under-23 side this season, and have been granted the opportunity to test themselves in a first-team environment in Scotland.

19-year-old winger Roberts has contributed five goals and six assists from just nine appearances in Premier League 2 so far this season, and he hopes to continue his fine form in front of goal during his latest loan spell.

He spent time on loan at Gateshead last season, but seeks to become an even bigger hit with Kilmarnock.

He told the club’s official website: “It’s going to be totally different, going up there and playing in the Scottish Premiership. It should be a good experience for me, and I’m looking forward to that.

“I’ve set myself a goal of getting more than five goals and a few assists while I’m there. If I can get more than that it’s great, but if I can get that, I’d be pretty pleased.

“I just want to play well up there and catch some eyes to hopefully go out on loan again next season.”

Roberts was announced with Longstaff and Woodman as Kilmarnock’s triple signing on Monday, and could make their first appearances for the club in the Scottish Cup fourth round tie with Hamilton on January 21st.

Kilmarnock, under the leadership of former Magpies midfielder Lee Clark, are currently 10th in the league, just four points clear of rock-bottom Inverness.

They have just one league win in their last 10 games, and Clark will be looking for his new trio to make an instant impact.
