Kevin Campbell has ripped into Arsenal attacker Nicolas Pepe after he was sent off at Leeds United.
The former Highbury forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said that the 25-year-old let the club down with his “stupid” and “crazy” actions at Elland Road.
Pepe was dismissed shortly after the interval for an altercation with Leeds’ Ezgjan Alioski.
The Gunners winger, who has struggled for game time this season, was adjudged to have headbutted Alioski and has since apologised for his actions on social media.
He will now face a three-game domestic ban and will miss the North London derby against Tottenham as well as fixtures against Wolves and Burnley.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the incident, Campbell said:
“Pepe got sucked in by Alioski and took the bait. He let himself, his teammates, his manager and the fans down.
“It is stupid thing to do but I have been on the pitch with players who have a hot streak and sometimes it is easy for them to get wound up. The thing is, I did not expect that of Pepe. It was a crazy thing for him to do.

“Luckily he has come out and apologised but it does not detract from what he did.
“It possibly cost Arsenal the opportunity to win the game but they were not playing well at that stage anyway. In many way it galvanised the team when he went off.”
