Campbell backs Arsenal to sign ‘upgrade’ on Ceballos after £17.2m bid reported
Sander Berge would be an upgrade on Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Berge, 23, would be a “great” signing for Mikel Arteta’s side in the region of £20million.
According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux, Arsenal have submitted a bid of £17.2million to Sheffield United for the centre-midfielder.
However, the relegated side are said to want a minimum of £25.8million plus a sell-on clause of 10-20 per cent.
Berge has only made 16 appearance in all competitions this season because of a hamstring injury suffered in December.
When asked by Football Insider if the Norway international would be an upgrade on Arsenal’s current crop of midfielders, Campbell said:
“Sander Berge is very different to what we have got.
“Ceballos will be leaving at the end of the season so it opens up a spot in the midfield department. Berge will be an upgrade on Ceballos because he is dependable.
“With Ceballos, you do not know what you are getting. One minute he is great and the next he is terrible.
“Sander Berge is a fighter and a good player so if they can get him for around £20million that would be great business because that is not huge money.
“Ceballos would cost a lot more and for me he is not a good fit for the Premier League. He is better suited to Spanish football.”
