Kevin Campbell is “delighted” Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has “taken his opportunity” this month.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Highbury favourite said the “clinical” 20-year-old has been “the difference maker” for Mikel Arteta’s side of late.

Martinelli scored twice on Saturday as the Gunners strengthened their grip on fourth spot with a 4-1 win at Elland Road.

The Brazilian has contributed three goals and two assists since coming into the starting XI at the start of December.

Speaking to club media (20 December), Arteta revealed his huge admiration for Martinelli who works “incredible hard” in training.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Martinelli’s form, Campbell said: “He has really taken his chance.

“Nobody has ever doubted his talent. The key for him was, when he gets his chance, he has got to take it.

“He did well as a sub against Newcastle and scored. I think that was what gave the confidence to go on this run.

“He has given Arsenal the cutting edge. He has been the difference maker. He’s clinical.

“I’m so, so delighted for Martinelli because he works so hard and he doesn’t complain. Now he has taken his opportunity. I am buzzing for him.”
