Rangers have received “great news” after it was reported Alfredo Morelos wants to stay at Ibrox next season to play in the Champions League.

That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the future of the Colombian.

The 4th Official report Morelos wants to stay with the Glasgow giants for the 2020/21 campaign despite previously revealing his “dream” was a move to the Premier League.


Football Insider revealed at the end of March the Gers were laying the groundwork for a blockbuster striker signing to potentially replace Morelos.

Rangers are set to compete in the Champions League for the first time in over a decade after securing a 55th historic Scottish title.

Morelos has shone on the European stage and became the club’s highest goalscorer in Europe this season.

After his stunning display in Rangers’ 5-2 win over Royal Antwerp in the Europa League earlier in the campaign Steven Gerrard admitted he knew why the 24-year-old liked playing in Europe.

“Gerrard’s made them so competitive,” Campbell told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“He’s made that dressing room one unit.

“There was a lot of talk about Morelos leaving.

“For it to come out that he wants to stay, that’s great news for the football club.”


Morelos has scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists in 40 games across all competitions for Rangers this season.

He has now found the net 93 times and contributed 42 assists in 178 appearances since arriving at the club in the summer of 2017.
