Campbell: ‘I’ll tell you’ what may be real reason Rodgers rejected Tottenham job

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers will not join Tottenham this summer because of Daniel Levy.

That is according to former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 48-year-old rejecting the London club’s interest in acquiring his services.

Spurs initially placed Rodgers at the top of their shortlist to replace Jose Mourinho and a contract worth £15million-a-year including bonuses was being readied.

However, Football Insider understands the Northern Irishman is not interested in the role and intends to stay at the King Power Stadium, barring a shock U-turn.

Rodgers won his first major trophy with the Foxes on Saturday after a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Campbell claimed the ex-Liverpool boss would not swap Leicester for Spurs for a number of reasons.

“I will tell you why Brendan Rodgers will not go to Tottenham,” he told Football Insider.

“He is at a club where he is loved, he is respected and he is backed by the board. What he says goes to a major extent.

“We all know about Daniel Levy at Spurs. He is not exactly someone who always endears himself to managers. Why would you leave a successful club that you have control over to go to a club where your relationship with the chairman could be volatile and uncomfortable?

“It is not as if they’re winning trophies. It doesn’t make sense.

“Obviously I cannot read Rodgers’ mind but Leicester could be serious contenders if they add a couple more top players into that squad.”
