Campbell in awe of Nuno after 'incredible' footage emerges from Arsenal

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on new Arsenal signing Nuno Tavares for his “incredible” performance on debut against Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker was impressed by how comfortable the 21-year-old was in possession when playing almost as a left-winger.

Arsenal signed the left-back on a four-year contract earlier this month after an £8million deal was agreed with Benfica.

Mikel Arteta has brought in the Portugal Under-21 international to provide cover for Kieran Tierney next season.

Tavares scored on debut for Arsenal last Saturday in a 2-2 draw with Rangers at Ibrox.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the left-back’s debut, Campbell said:

“I thought he was incredible, considering it was his debut. I know it is a pre-season game but still.

“Arsenal played a lot better against Rangers than they did against Hibs and some of that was down to Tavares. I thought he was brilliant.

“You can only play against the opposition in front of you. He showed a very good account of himself and scored a goal on his debut, which is always nice. It was an impressive 45 minutes.

“He was almost playing as a left-winger in possession and that is what Arteta wants. He wants them to play high and stretch the pitch. That is how they control the tempo of the game. He seemed very comfortable out there.”
