Campbell issues ‘impossible’ Man City verdict as Erling Haaland ‘amazed’
Kevin Campbell has claimed it is “impossible” for Erling Haaland not to succeed alongside players like Kevin De Bruyne at Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested Pep Guardiola’s side are adapting their game to aid Haaland, 22.
The Norwegian striker scored a brace on his Premier League debut against West Ham on Sunday.
De Bruyne provided a perfectly weighted through ball for Haaland to score his second at the London Stadium.
As quoted by The Sun (8 August), Haaland said he is “surrounded by amazing players” at the Etihad.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the centre-forward’s start, Campbell said:
“The passes by De Bruyne and [Ilkay] Gundogan… That is smart football from top players.
“The keeper had no chance on either occasion.
“Look, it is impossible for Haaland to fail at Man City. He cannot fail.
“The first goal was West Ham defending deep. Haaland still found the space. They probed, probed, probed and then released him.
“Once City go ahead, West Ham push up the pitch to try and score and then the likes of De Bruyne can thread the ball in behind.
“I’m telling you, teams are going to be in big trouble with Haaland. They are clearly working on releasing him.

“They are not quite there yet. There is still times where he makes runs and the ball doesn’t come.
“Two was probably enough on Sunday though!”
