Campbell 'really excited' by Arsenal source update on £60m+ Maddison pursuit

Kevin Campbell is “really excited” by the possibility of Arsenal signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker fears the 24-year-old’s price tag of ‘£70million quid’ may be too much this summer.

Arsenal are in the market for a new number 10 after last season’s loan star Martin Odegaard returned to his parent club Real Madrid.

Respected Gunners transfer source AFC Bell claimed on Twitter that James Maddison’s camp expect Arsenal to make a move in the coming weeks.

According to Goal‘s Charles Watts (17th June), Mikel Arteta’s side will have to pay in excess of £60million to land the Englishman in this window.

When asked for his thoughts on the potential arrival of Maddison, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs:

“It’s really exciting to hear he’s on our radar. I like him, I think he is a brilliant player.

“He is still just 24 so he is a good age. He is a young, talented player. If he comes to Arsenal I believe he can go to that next level.

“The sticking point will be the fee though because I believe Leicester are asking for crazy money at the moment.

“I know he is a very good player but £70million quid is a lot of money. It will be very interesting to see if Arsenal can get that price down a bit.”
