Campbell shares verdict on Gasperini landing Tottenham job after reveal via Romano

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini would struggle at Tottenham if appointed Jose Mourinho’s successor.

That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of the 63-year-old taking over at the north London club this summer.

According to The Transfer Window Podcast, Spurs have reached out to the Atalanta boss to see if he would be interested in becoming their new manager at the end of the season.

However, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Gasperini poured cold water on the idea of him filling the vacant position and insisted there has been no contact between the two parties.

Gasperini has excelled at Atalanta since his appointment in 2016, with the Italian club currently second in Serie A.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the experienced Italian could be the man for Spurs, Campbell said:“He has done very well at Atalanta but it is one of them.

“Is Serie A as competitive as the Premier League? Some of the big teams have fallen away. Juventus, Napoli and AS Roma haven’t been themselves.

“Atalanta have had an unbelievable season but when you come into the Premier League you are up against the best in the business. We are talking about the best teams in Europe. Look at the Champions League final – Manchester City against Chelsea.

“If Spurs want to win trophies they need an elite manager. Quite frankly Serie A is worlds apart from the Premier League right now.”
