Casemiro: Man United ‘U-turn’ truth revealed as supporters call for contract extension

Manchester United supporters are desperate for Casemiro to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond the 2025-26 campaign.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who is one of the club’s highest-paid players, has already announced his decision to leave at the end of the season, having joined from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022.

He remains an integral member of the squad, though, with the Red Devils facing a major headache over finding a suitable replacement for the experienced, title-winning defensive midfielder.

In 28 Premier League games, Casemiro has notched seven goals and two assists, with two of those goals coming in his last two games, which could change Man United’s transfer plans ahead of the summer.

Talk of Casemiro ‘U-turn’ is not to be believed

There is a growing hope at the Theatre of Dreams, especially following the player’s celebrations against Aston Villa on Sunday, 15 March, that he could actually sign a new deal with United.

However, according to the Daily Mail, talk of a U-turn is nothing more than “emotional,” with the decision for him to leave being a club decision, and the MLS being his most likely destination.

It would appear that the Red Devils are already scouring the market for his replacement, being linked with the likes of Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

His future will likely remain up in the air until the summer, with nobody at Old Trafford expecting a new deal to be signed despite his performances, much to the disappointment of excited supporters.

How Man United midfielder can help Bruno Fernandes break Premier League record

Bruno Fernandes supplied the assist as Casemiro headed home the opener, meaning that the playmaker now has the most assists for a single teammate in the 2025-26 campaign.

The duo clearly have an understanding, and in the final eight games of the season, the Brazilian could help Fernandes to break the record for the most assists in a Premier League season.

Currently sitting on 16, the 31-year-old needs four more to draw even with Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne, and five more to be the sole record-holder before potentially leaving in the summer.

Football Insider understands that Man United plan to hold talks with Fernandes over a new deal, but it remains to be seen whether or not this is his final season in England.
