Celtic are braced for another mammoth bid for one of their stars as Leicester City ready a formal offer for Callum McGregor, Football Insider understands.
The Scottish treble winners face a major battle to hang on the midfielder, 26, as well as left-back Kieran Tierney, who is the subject of strong and sustained interest from Arsenal.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are aware that Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers wants to be reunited with McGregor after their hugely successful three-season alliance at Parkhead.
The Premier League club are expected to submit a formal bid of around £15million for McGregor, who, like Tierney, is a product of Celtic’s prolific academy.
Football Insider reported last weekend that Arsenal are ready to make a new and improved offer for Tierney that Celtic “can’t refuse” after their opening £15million player-plus-cash offer was knocked back.
McGregor has been one of the key players during Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football, which has yielded three consecutive trebles.
The versatile midfielder was one of those who most benefited from the shrewd coaching of Rodgers, who abruptly quit Parkhead in February to take over at Leicester.
He made 59 appearances for Celtic last season, scoring six goals and supplying 16 assists, and was narrowly beaten by teammate James Forrest to the player of the year award.
McGregor has made 224 appearances in total for his boyhood club and is also establishing himself as a key player for the Scotland national team.
