Celtic expected 4-2-3-1 v Rangers: Senior duo axed after Champions League loss

By Will Butcher

Brendan Rodgers is expected to make two changes to his Celtic side to face Rangers in the second Old Firm derby of the season on Sunday.

The two sides meet at Ibrox in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup, just four days after Celtic were convincingly beaten by German outfit Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Kolo Toure is expected to be dropped after being at fault for both of Gladbach’s goals, while Patrick Roberts could start after an impressive cameo display against the Bundesliga side.

Ivory Coast international Toure almost single handedly provided Gladbach the three points in Group C, after giving the ball away twice in perilous positions to allow Jonas Hoffman and Andre Hahn to strike.

The former Premier League stalwart is expected to be replaced by Jozo Simunovic, who is set to come in alongside Denmark international Erik Sviatchenko.

Manchester City loanee Roberts could come in after an ineffective display from James Forrest on the right, but Leigh Griffiths is likely to be left out again by Rodgers.

Israeli international Nir Bitton is also likely to keep his place despite a dismal showing on Wednesday night, starting in midfield with captain Scott Brown.

A win for the Hoops could give Rodgers his first shot at silverware after moving north to Glasgow.

Aberdeen or Morton will also be looking to get their hands on the trophy, as they do battle on Saturday with a place in the final at stake.
