It looks as if one of the key members of the team which helped Celtic win their first domestic treble in 16 years is set to depart the club.
According to reports in the Scottish Sun, Patrick Roberts is set to be the subject of a summer bidding war between Leicester City and West Ham United.
If the player does decide to play in the Premier League, Celtic fans can’t complain, as they were fortunate to have him at the club for so long.
As Roberts is technically a Manchester City player, they could have said ‘no’ when the Hoops approached the Premier League leaders about bringing the player back to Glasgow after his initial loan period ended.
However, they said ‘yes’, and the 21-year-old returned to Glasgow for another season.
Although some supporters have hoped that the reception Roberts got from supporters on his return would somehow allow him to try and seal a permanent move, that was never likely to happen, and indeed his injury problems this season have shown that it wouldn’t have been a good idea.
When Roberts does leave, he should go with the best wishes of the fans who may well be celebrating a unique second domestic treble in a row, but for that to happen the Hoops need Roberts back to full fitness.
