'Different class' - Celtic fans rave about 23-year-old after win v Anderlecht

By Danny Wright

Celtic fans on Twitter have hailed Jozo Simunovic for his display in the 3-0 win against Anderlecht in Brussels on Wednesday night.

Simunovic, 23, was in inspired form in the centre of defence as the Hoops earned their first even away clean sheet in the Champions League group stages.

Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair got the goals for the Scottish champions, but it was defender Simunovic who had everyone talking after the game for nullifying the Belgian giants’ attack on pretty much every occasion when they pushed forward.

The Bosnian centre-back has been in mixed form this term after struggling with fitness, but put all that to the back of his mind on Wednesday and Celtic fans were raving about his display on social media after the game.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Simunovic has made 12 appearances across all competitions this season and has had a lot of pressure on his shoulders being Brendan Rodgers’ only traditional centre-back to have not suffered a prolonged spell on the sideline.

Dedryck Boyata only partnered him for the first time on Saturday in the win against Rangers, but the Belgian was on fire on Wednesday against Anderlecht in his second showing alongside Simunovic.

In other Celtic news, a BBC commentator has brutally mocked Rangers for their inability to handle this Hoops ace in the Old Firm clash.
