'Rotten' - Celtic fans destroy one player after win v Kilmarnock

By Danny Wright

Celtic fans have destroyed youngster Kundai Benyu for his performance in the routine 2-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday.

The 19-year-old attacker is one of Brendan Rodgers’ few summer recruits after he sealed his move from Ipswich in June by putting pen-to-paper on a four-year contract.

Saturday saw Benyu feature in an unexpected starting line-up which saw Rodgers make a host of changes from the mid-week battering of Astana in the Champions League play-off first leg.

However the reshuffling of the pack didn’t harm the Hoops, who continued their winning ways thanks to goals late in each half from James Forrest and Callum McGregor.

Benyu, who was starting his first Scottish Premiership fixture, impressed some fans with his display on the wing before he was replaced by Mikael Lustig in the 78th minute.

However the majority of Celtic supporters thought that Benyu was nowhere near the quality that is needed in the first-team having spent last season on loan with English non-league side Aldershot.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Benyu failed to earn a single senior appearance for Ipswich but was in top form for Aldershot last season as they came close to promotion to the English League Two after he scored five goals and supplied three assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.

In other Celtic news, a report has detailed how Patrick Roberts went about trying to secure another loan move to Parkhead.
