‘Worried’ – Celtic fans react as defender earns first appearance in a year v Rosenborg

By Danny Wright

Brendan Rodgers has opted to name Kristoffer Ajer in the heart of his defence for Celtic’s Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg on Wednesday night – and fans are hoping that the defender is up to the task.

The 19-year-old has only earned one appearance in his career at Parkhead, which came over a year ago when he featured for 30 minutes of the 3-0 win over Lincoln Red Imps in July 2016.

The Hoops confirmed on their official Twitter account prior to kick-off that Ajer will be joining Jozo Simunovic in the heart of the defence, which also features Kieran Tierney and Mikael Lustig in the full-back positions.

Wednesday’s clash with Rosenborg at Celtic Park will see Rodgers’ men try to give themselves a good advantage ahead of their away trip to Norway for the second leg next week.

The Bhoys eased past Linfield in the last round of the Champions League, but are now facing the cost of injury and suspension issues for a much harder task.

Many supporters believe that Ajer’s inclusion could have a major impact on the result due to his relative inexperience at this level with the Bhoys, but are still offering the Norway Under-21 ace their full support.

However one fan says that he is “worried” by the youngster’s inclusion.
