Celtic fans react to brilliant teenager being fast-tracked into team to face Hamilton

By James Black

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed earlier today (Thursday) that new signing Odsonne Edouard is in line to make his debut tomorrow night – and Celtic fans took to Twitter to express their delight.

The 19-year-old attacker joined Brendan Rodgers’ squad on deadline day and, with injury concerns over Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths, Rodgers told reporters at his pre-match press conference, and quoted by Celtic’s official Twitter account, that Edouard will be part of his squad on Friday.

Celtic fans quickly took to social media after Rodgers’ comments to voice their opinion on Edouard possibly starting against Accies with many excited over seeing the striker in action although one or two are still a bit sceptical.

And there were puns. Lots of puns.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

With one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League opener with Paris Saint-Germain, Rodgers seems unlikely to risk Leigh Griffiths on Accies’ plastic pitch after the hitman picked up an injury during Scotland’s 2-0 win over Malta on Monday night.

Despite having not played a senior game since March, Edouard has been involved with PSG’s first-team throughout pre-season and took part in friendlies with Tottenham and Roma so should get a good run out against Martin Canning’s side.

As Edouard is eligible to play against his parent club in the Champions League, the striker will be eager to impress and hopefully get a chance to show his employers just what he is capable of.
