‘Yes please’, ‘In a heartbeat’ – Celtic fans react as club in driving seat to sign £8m ace

By Harry Sykes

Celtic are reportedly in a strong position to secure the signing of Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.

The Daily Record claim the Scottish giants are edging close to a stunning swoop for the 19-year-old after he snubbed Chelsea’s offer of a new contract.

It is said that Celtic are ready to take advantage of cross-border rules which would enable them to snap up Solanke at the fraction of the £8million development fee that English clubs would have to pay for the teenager, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Celtic fans are enthused at the prospect of the club signing Solanke after the huge success of their bargain capture of Moussa Dembele in a similar situation last summer.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Versatile forward Solanke is a product of the Chelsea youth system but has played only one senior match for the club, in the Champions League in 2014.

He had a successful spell on loan at Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem last season but has spent the entirety of this campaign with the Chelsea development squad.

He is reportedly keen to leave Stamford Bridge because of his place in the striker pecking order, where he is way below the senior front men.

In other Celtic transfer news, the club’s incoming big-money signing will cost more than Rangers’ entire summer transfer bill.
