‘Total liability’ – Celtic fans go berserk as defender starts v Partick
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has named his first starting XI after the Hoops’ “invincible” domestic run came to an end – and fans aren’t impressed to see Dedryck Boyata’s name on the team sheet.
The Belgian defender has come in for criticism for his displays recently for the Hoops and with the signing of Marvin Compper in January, Boyata may find a starting place hard to come by in the new year.
Boyata starts alongside Norwegian wonderkid Kris Ajer at the heart of the Hoops defence as they look to kick off a new unbeaten run, as confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account.
The inclusion of Boyata has left fans unhappy – with one calling it “a joke.”
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
Boyata has made 19 appearances for the Hoops this season alongside a long-list of defensive partners as injuries have taken their toll on Brendan Rodgers’ selection choices.
The Belgian international joined the Scottish champions from Manchester City and has made a total of 83 appearances since swapping the Etihad for Celtic Park.
A win for Brendan Rodgers’ side would increase their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to six points over second-placed Aberdeen and eight over Rangers in third.
