Celtic fans react on Twitter to Boyata display v St Johnstone
By Matt Farr
Belgium defender Dedryck Boyata gave an impressive display as Celtic recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over St. Johnstone on Wednesday night – and fans were pleasantly surprised.
The 26-year-old has been used only sparingly by Brendan Rodgers this season, but recalled him to the first-team setup for their last two fixtures.
Boyata had featured just once for Celtic in the first-half of the season – playing the full 90 minutes against Kilmarnock back in November – but has since made back-to-back starts against Albion and St. Johnstone.
The defender looked a potential candidate to leave Parkhead this month, but having been given a fresh opportunity by Rodgers to impress, Boyata has been given a new lease of life.
He scored the game’s only goal, and looked confident and assured at the back, triggering endless praise from the club’s fans for his display on social media.

His display on Wednesday is likely to give Rodgers food for thought in the coming weeks, as he ponders over his defensive options.
Mikael Lustig missed the tie nursing a minor knock, but could return to the fray when Celtic take on Hearts on Sunday; while Erik Sviatchenko and Kolo Toure will also be in contention for first-team roles.
However, following yet another masterclass by Boyata, Rodgers surely has no choice but to keep the faith in his previously-forgotten man.
