'Break the transfer record' – Celtic fans react on Twitter to Roberts display v Hearts

By Will Butcher

Celtic fans were elated with the performance of on-loan winger Patrick Roberts as he scored the Hoops’ fourth in a huge 5-0 win over Hearts.

A hat-trick from Scott Sinclair and a brilliant effort from newly capped Scotland international Stuart Armstrong saw the Bhoys confirmed as Scottish Premiership champions for 2016-17.

Roberts, 20, scored his sixth goal of the season after being played through by academy graduate Callum McGregor before the England youth ace curled a left-footed effort past Jack Hamilton.

His goal came in the second half before Sinclair rounded off the rout over the Jam Tarts with a well taken penalty; the ex-Aston Villa ace’s first hat-trick since joining Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Celtic fans were delighted with the contribution made by Roberts, as he edges closer to returning to Pep Guardiola’s Man City with only eight league games remaining.

However, some fans are desperate to see the 48-time Scottish champions spend whatever it takes to see Roberts sign on permanently with the Hoops.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Roberts has now had a hand in one goal in every two appearances he has made, with six strikes of his own and 13 assists in just 38 league and cup encounters.

Fans hopes of bringing Roberts north on a permanent deal may go unheard, as the former Fulham ace still has three years to go on his Etihad contract.
