‘Atrocious’, ‘Brutal’ – Celtic fans slam one player for display in win v Partick
Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to slam Dedryck Boyata for yet another below-par performance in the 2-0 win against Partick at Parkhead on Wednesday night.
Boyata, 27, was one of the players who was highly criticised for the Bhoys’ unbeaten domestic run coming to an end on Sunday in the 4-0 defeat at Hearts and while Jozo Simunovic was axed by Brendan Rodgers, the Belgian centre-back managed to keep his spot.
Kristoffer Ajer came into the side to partner Boyata, but even that change didn’t help the ex-Manchester City man according to the Parkhead faithful, who tore into him on Twitter despite seeing their side getting back to winning ways.
One disappointed fan even said that the player’s passing was “atrocious”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Boyata has been ever-present this season, making 23 appearances across all competitions and scoring five goals in the process – a handsome tally for a centre-back.
However many perceive his performances as being sub-par and the Belgian could perhaps do with a rest after regularly playing two games in a week due to a shortage of defensive options at Parkhead.
The Bhoys have now agreed to sign Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig in January so that will give Rodgers an extra man at centre-back to help rotate the squad.
However the German isn’t eligible to play in the Europa League, so Boyata’s spot in the first-team looks sure to continue at some degree.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have been installed as favourites to sign James McClean in January.
