Celtic fans stunned by ‘devastating’ twist as ‘season over’ for Matt O’Riley

Celtic fans have been left stunned after Matt O’Riley suffered an ankle injury just eight minutes into his Brighton debut after making the switch from Parkhead.

O’Riley signed for the Seagulls for a Scottish record fee of £30million including add-ons, and was handed his first start the day after his arrival.

However, a reckless challenge from Crawley’s Jay Williams saw the midfielder limp off the pitch minutes into his debut.

He was later pictured leaving the stadium on crutches, and while no confirmed time frame has been given, fans are beginning to speculate about the extent of the blow.

Some suggested he would miss “months” while one went as far as to claim his season could be over in a “devastating” turn of events.

Despite having left Parkhead, Celtic fans still hold O’Riley in high regard for what he did while at the club, and are raging at his new blow.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell at Celtic, O’Riley did not miss a single game through injury, making the new blow an even harsher twist of fate.

Within one day of a record-breaking transfer, the midfielder now faces a spell on the sidelines at his new club after an awful challenge.

Celtic fans have flooded social media to support their former star, sending their well-wishes as the challenge was labelled “diabolical” and “dreadful”.
