Celtic fans would take dropping points if it means Old Firm title party

COMMENT

After a very long delay, the SPFL finally announced their post-split Scottish Premiership fixtures for the last five league games of the season, on the official SPFL Twitter page.

The most notable aspect is that the Hoops have the chance to clinch the league title with a against Neil Lennon’s Hibernian at Easter Road, but if they drop points in that game they could clinch the game in their next league match – the Old Firm derby.

If most Hoops fans were given a choice, they would rather that the Bhoys dropped points against their old manager’s team, and cinched the league title at home against their biggest rivals.

The Hoops haven’t had the chance to do this in six years, since losing 3-2 at Ibrox in 2012.

The SPFL have been desperate to avoid a potential Old Firm title decider ever since violent scenes in 1999 when Rangers clinched the title at Celtic Park.

But there is a real chance of it happening this season, as it wouldn’t be that much of a shock if the Hoops dropped points to a side they have already dropped points against in two league games this season, and Hibernian will have plenty to play for in the fight for second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

It might look odd but there is no doubt some Hoops fans will be hoping that the Bhoys slip up against Hibernian next Friday.
