Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton was straight on to Twitter after Rangers’ win against Aberdeen on Wednesday night to aim a subtle dig at Graeme Murty’s side but, for once, we doubt whether ‘Gers fans will mind.
James Tavernier scored a brilliant brace for the Light Blues either side of Carlos Pena’s strike to give the Glasgow side an emphatic 3-0 victory at Ibrox against Derek McInnes’ men.
Sutton’s old side Celtic came close to seeing the historic unbeaten run come to an end when Mikael Lustig scored a late own goal against Motherwell at Fir Park in the other game of the night.
The Hoops had not lost a domestic game in 65 outings and ensured that run was extended to 66 when Scott Sinclair dispatched a last-gasp penalty to earn a draw.
The win moves Rangers into third in the league, seven points behind Celtic but now just three points behind Aberdeen, who they meet again at the weekend.
The momentum is definitely with Rangers now and another win against Aberdeen could – as unlikely as it seems – fire them back into the title race if Celtic slip up again.
With a new manager hopefully arriving soon, things could definitely be a whole lot worse for Rangers at the moment.
