Celtic idol hails Rangers board member after latest development – ‘he should be chief executive’

Frank McAvennie has insisted Rangers scout John Park “should be the chief executive”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker hailed Park’s ability when it comes to signing players and claimed he is “better” than just being a scout.

According to the Sun (24 January), the recruitment guru is on a short-list of candidates for the role of director of football at Hibernian.

Rangers

The former Celtic man was appointed by Gers sporting director Ross Wilson last July and has a massive job on his hands at Ibrox come the summer.

During his tenure at Parkhead, Park brought in players including Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper, Ki Sung-yueng, Tom Rogic and even Virgil van Dijk.

When asked if Gers fans would be happy to see the back of Park given the underwhelming recent transfers, McAvennie told Football Insider:He has got an eye for a player

“But I do not think John Park would have picked Souttar, not a chance. Knowing John Park I do not think he would have picked him because he is more clever than that.

Rangers

He was down south, he really does have an eye for a player and is better than just being a scout.

He should be the chief executive because he is that good. I do not think some of the signings are down to him. I think he identified players and they went and got others.
