Celtic idol slams SFA after Scottish Cup final latest – ‘deserves to be sacked’

Celtic idol Frank McAvennie has claimed SFA chief Ian Maxwell “should be sacked” after his claims about the Scottish Cup final kick off change.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said the kick off time should never have been changed in the first place and couldn’t believe Maxwell’s reasoning.

As quoted by footballscotland (22 May), the Scottish chief claimed that the decision to move the start time from its usual 3pm spot to 5.30pm was to allow them to “showcase the game” across the UK.

The FA Cup final is also taking place on 3 June at 3pm and Maxwell said he did not want to diminish the Scottish competition’s viewership.

But BBC scheduling shows that the UK-wide channel will be showing Garden Rescue instead of the Hampden clash following the conclusion of the FA Cup.

The Scottish showpiece between Celtic and Inverness will be available on BBC Scotland as well as Viaplay Sports.

McAvennie couldn’t believe Maxwell’s comments about changing the start time of the match.

I think the people at the SFA do not have a clue what football is all about,” he told Football Insider.

Some things in life just should not be changed and 3pm on cup final day should not be changed. It just shouldn’t be.

If somebody wants to watch it they will watch it, if it is only being changed for BBC Scotland what is the point? That is not showcasing the game.

If that is the case he deserves to be sacked. Scottish Cup finals should be on a Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock, that way everyone is happy.
