Report: Celtic ace absent due to new injury, not a possible transfer
By Russell Edge
Celtic have been left sweating over the fitness of Moussa Dembele after he missed the club’s training session on Tuesday due to a soreness in his thigh, according to a report.
French football news website Get French Football reported on their Twitter account that the pain was the reason behind the 21-year-old forward’s reported absence ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg on Wednesday.
They state that him missing out had nothing to do with a potential transfer, with fans potentially concerned that he could be trying to force a move away from the club.
It has been claimed that the French youngster is open to a move away from Celtic Park this summer, with Marseille said to have held talks with the Hoops over a £20million move.
However, concerns may now focus on the forward’s fitness, with a thigh injury having already sidelined Dembele for seven matches towards the end of last season.
Both fans and the club’s management will be hoping that the reported soreness is not a recurrence of the former injury, and that he will be fit enough to play a part in their crucial Champions League qualifier tomorrow at Celtic Park.
The Hoops will have to overcome Rosenborg over two legs before seeing off another side in the play-off stage if they are to reach the group stages once again, and they could use Moussa Dembele’s goal scoring talent to secure their place.
He starred for the club during his debut season in Glasgow, hitting 32 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions, while he has also appeared in the club’s two European qualifying matches against Linfield this summer.
In other Celtic news, this player has confirmed the end of his long stay at the club.
