Former Celtic goalscoring legend Frank McGarvey has got it horribly wrong about Leigh Griffiths.
As quoted in the Daily Record, McGarvey claims that Griffiths is the ‘best striker in Scotland’. Unfortunately for McGarvey, he isn’t even the best striker at the Hoops.
How he can claim Griffiths is the best striker in Scotland is quite odd, as the 27-year-old isn’t even the first pick for the Hoops, and if all three strikers at the club remain with the Hoops next season, he is likely to be third choice striker.
At the moment the main striker at the Hoops is Moussa Dembele, with Odsonne Edouard a close second behind, and Griffiths in third place.
If both Dembele and Edouard leave the Hoops in the summer then McGarvey may have a point, but the French duo have pace and power that the Scottish international lacks in his game.
Brendan Rodgers will rate Griffiths because of his goalscoring ability, but the way he has fallen to third choice striker at times is telling.
When the Champions League qualifiers begin, it is unlikely that Griffiths will even be starting for the team, never mind be the best striker in Scotland.
He is capable of doing damage off the bench and will still be a valuable squad player for the Hoops, but the best striker in Scotland? Not at the moment he isn’t.
