Celtic legend Pat Bonner has slammed Moussa Dembele for not performing well enough each week for the Hoops.
Bonner, who four league titles with the Hoops, is shocked that the Frenchman has scored only eight league goals this season and he believes that the 21-year-old, who has been a mainstay of the Hoops side with 35 appearances this season, can do much better.
“Moussa Dembele is a young man with brilliant attributes. For me, though, he has to do it more often,” Bonner said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I’ve no doubt that he’ll go out on Sunday and he’ll show his quality again. But I want to see him doing that on a regular basis.
“When I look at the goalscoring charts and the top Celtic scorer has nine goals in the league, I question that.
“How is that happening?”
Dembele will have a chance to prove Bonner and the rest of his critics wrong on Sunday, as he is set to lead the line for the Bhoys in their Scottish Cup semi-final clash against Rangers.
Football Insider verdict
Demebele’s performances this season have been a bit of mystery, as it seems that transfer speculation did affect his form for a while, but with the speculation over until the end of the season, his performances have still been inconsistent, which is completely different from last season, when he was in superb form for the majority of the season. The Hoops are still a better side when Dembele is in it, but the fact that some fans would rather Leigh Griffiths started in the Scottish Cup semi-final shows that the Frenchman’s stock has fallen in comparison to last season, where he was an automatic first-pick each week.
