Celtic must offer Emilio Izaguirre a contract extension in January.
The experienced defender has proven to be a valuable member of the first team in recent weeks and deserves to handed a contract extension in the new year.
Izaguirre’s current deal is set to expire next summer but he has done enough to prove why he must stay at the club after filling in impressively for Kieran Tierney.
The 30-year-old was not Brendan Rodgers’ first choice left-back at the start of the season but after Tierney was ruled out until 2017, Izaguirre has stepped up to the plate and performed well.
He has produced consistently solid displays at left-back and the Honduran will continue to provide effective competition for Tierney throughout the rest of the campaign.
Rodgers has already suggested he is open to offering a new contract and, after making nine successive appearances for the Hoops, Izaguirre is heading into the new year in great form.
He has now notched up seven Premiership starts and has been a key member of the side in recent weeks as Celtic have maintained their unbeaten run.
The Honduras international has been at the club for six years and he is expected to start the New Year’s Eve blockbuster fixture against Rangers on Saturday.
In other Celtic news, Craig Gordon hopes to be offered a new contract.
