Celtic must scrap 26-yr-old talks and re-sign international colossus, fans will lose their minds

COMMENT

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is in talks over signing Scott Bain on a permanent deal in the summer when he is available on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has done a good job since arriving at Parkhead on loan in the January transfer window and with his deal at Dundee due to expire soon, he has confirmed that he has spoken with Rodgers about being a permanent feature at the Scottish champions.

However Rodgers must scrap those talks because there’s every chance that he will have the opportunity to re-sign Fraser Forster from Southampton in the summer as the Premier League club brace themselves for relegation.

The Sun has reported that Southampton are looking to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kieren Westwood in the summer with Forster dropping down the pecking order at St Mary’s.

The six-times England international has not played for the Saints since Boxing Day and Celtic have a huge chance to re-sign their former shot-stopper.

The 6ft 7in colossus made 197 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys between 2010 and 2014, keeping 101 clean sheets and winning three Scottish Premiership titles in the process.

Re-signing the man mountain would cause Celtic fans to lose their minds, especially as the Hoops defence has been a real weak-point this season and needs improving on in the summer.

Craig Gordon would surely be a great No 2 choice to Forster while Bain should be free to sign for someone else.

Signing up Forster would be a brilliant way to kick off the summer and have fans dreaming about a massive improvement in European competitions against some of the competitions biggest clubs.

In other Celtic news, the Hoops are likely to sign this Premier League playmaker in the summer, but he is a lifelong Rangers fan.
