Celtic must do all they can to ensure they secure the future of Kristoffer Ajer this summer with the player reportedly a target of Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.
The Daily Record have claimed that the German heavyweights, who sit third in the Bundesliga, are eyeing up a swoop for the defender after his impressive performances this season.
There had been talk that the Hoops were set to offer the Norwegian 19-year-old, who has recently broken into his national side, an improved deal with his current terms set to expire in 2020.
But with speculation now surrounding the player’s future Brendan Rodgers must work his magic to convince the youngster that his future lies in Scotland to stave off the German giants’ advances.
Since coming into the side this season, following his loan spell with Kilmarnock last year, the centre-back has come on leaps and bounds.
Alongside Dedryk Boyata at the back, Ajer has impressed for his cool-headedness on the ball, while he is equally adept at handling the physicalities of the game, possessing an aggressive streak which usually sees him come out on top.
While the Hoops have struggled to come to terms with a host of injuries to defenders, it has meant that the Norway international has been thrust into the thick of action, making 26 appearances in all this term.
Despite his age, Ajer has shown he is up to the challenge and has the mental strength to become a key player for the Hoops for years to come.
Celtic need to keep the youngster and while he continues to develop it would be best for him, and the club, to remain at Parkhead for the foreseeable future.
In other Celtic news, unheralded 24-year-old is Mr Consistent and really makes Hoops tick.
