Sources: Major update on Albian Ajeti’s future after Celtic talks held

Celtic will tell Albian Ajeti he is free to find a new club this summer, Football Insider understands.

The Switzerland international, 25, has struggled to make an impact at Parkhead since his 2020 arrival from West Ham.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Ajeti does not figure in Ange Postecoglou’s plans going forward and the club will listen to offers for him in the upcoming window.

A loan move is more likely in the summer than a permanent transfer unless Ajeti can ignite his Hoops career with some goals.

He has only recently recovered from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for more than two months.

Ajeti was an unused substitute for last weekend’s 2-0 Scottish Premiership win over St Mirren.

But he is behind an army of forwards in the club’s pecking order, including Postecoglu signings Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Georgios Giakoumakis, Liel Abada, as well as longserving winger James Forrest.

Kyogo is the number one striker but he has missed most of the last three months with an injury of his own.

Giakoumakis is regarded by Postecoglou as the back-up but he is also has also been sidelined.

The manager revealed at his media conference on Friday that the imposing Greek striker is back in full training and will return to the squad for his side’s crunch clash with Livingston on Sunday.

The return of the £2.5million signing from VVV-Venlo will further reduce the opportunities for Ajeti.

The striker was recruited from West Ham in the summer of 2020 for an initial £4.5m rising to a potential £6m with add-ons.

He has responded with just nine goals from 48 Celtic matches, with his 17 appearances this term yielding just three goals.

In other news, medical expert fears Kyogo Furhashi may have suffered another setback in shattering Celtic blow.
