Celtic news: Campbell issues 'huge' claim after Uefa development - 'it's the undoing of Scottish sides'

Celtic have been handed a “huge” boost after Russian teams were banned from competing in Uefa competitions, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said playing in European qualifiers is often “the undoing of Scottish sides.”

Celtic are in pole position to win the Scottish Premiership after beating Hearts on Saturday.

As reported by the BBC (4 May), Russian teams will be banned from participating in all Uefa competitions next season.

It means that the winner of the Scottish Premiership will go straight into the group stages of the Champions League in the 2022-23 campaign.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the development, Campbell said: “That is huge news for Celtic.

“That really is huge. They will not have to come back for pre-season early and play in those early qualifiers. That is sometimes the undoing of those Scottish sides. It is very difficult for them.

“To go straight into the league format of the Champions League, with the revenue generated is perfect.

“They have got to get the title over the line but it was mission accomplished the other day. I’m sure they will win it. It’s just a matter of time.”

Speaking after the win over Hearts, Ange Postecoglou said: “It’s a massive collective effort from all the players.

“I’m super pleased for them that they got the rewards they deserve.”
