Celtic news: McAvennie issues ‘unbelievable’ Albian Ajeti claim after source’s update

Frank McAvennie has slammed Albian Ajeti for not trying to force a move away from Celtic.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, can’t believe what he’s seen from the striker.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider on Saturday (5 March) Ajeti does not figure in Ange Postecoglou’s plans going forward and the club will listen to offers for him in the upcoming window.

Ajeti was an unused substitute for last weekend’s 2-0 Scottish Premiership win over St Mirren and he failed to make the matchday squad for his side’s 3-1 win over Livingston on Sunday (6 March).

McAvennie can’t believe Ajeti is still being paid by the club.

“Don’t get me started on Ajeti,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Oh my god, it’s unbelievable he is still taking money from the club.

“There are some players who aren’t playing who will look to move.

“Ajeti just sits on the bench with a big coat on not doing anything. He was doing it the other night.

“He’s not going to play, we know this. There are at least three people ahead of him.

“He should have gone in January but I’m not surprised no offers came in.

“I’m not even sure why he’s making the bench on occasion.”

The striker was recruited from West Ham in the summer of 2020 for an initial £4.5m rising to a potential £6m with add-ons.

He has responded with just nine goals from 48 Celtic matches, with his 17 appearances this term yielding just three goals.
